Managers need to listen to employees and work with them both to get the work done and to ensure that they are happy in their work, the ICWF Academic Conference was told. They should take a long-term approach because recognising and taking into account employees' changing personal circumstances can build loyalty and commitment. Above all they should communicate and be seen to be fair.
