IESE continues to explore the benefits of using technology in business education, with the launch of a top level course for executives on the Coursera platform. Led by one of the world’s leading experts in globalization, IESE Prof. Ghemawat, the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) will provide executives worldwide with a compelling framework for thinking about globalization and how it affects business and personal strategies.

Starting today, "Globalization of Business Enterprise" is one of the premier courses on IESE’s full-time MBA, which Prof. Ghemawat has adapted for the online platform. The course, broken up into eight sessions, will combine online video lectures of approximately 10 to 20 minutes each with embedded quizzes, discussions forums for case studies and a final peer-assessed assignment.

Leveraging Prof. Ghemawat’s world-renowned research and innovative web-based analytical tools, the course will help executives to gain a deeper understanding about what globalization is and will focus on the differences between countries and what implications this has for business. The final part will bring together the impacts of globalization on business strategies with personal career trajectories.

Having a firm grasp of the nuances of globalization is widely recognized as crucial for today´s executives who often are dealing with many different overseas markets – and participants on IESE´s online course can be assured they will get to take advantage of some of the most cutting edge teaching on Globalization. Prof. Ghemawat has been instrumental in championing the need for better teaching of Globalization within business education, recently serving as the leading mind behind task force, set up The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), to encourage business schools to embrace globalization and provide recommendations on how schools can best teach the subject. The report recently proposed it should be a mandatory subject on the MBA curriculum for all business schools.

IESE plans to launch three more MOOCs during the 2013 – 2014 academic year with the aim to expand its renowned and pioneering experience in management education through Coursera, the leading platform for MOOCs. This initiative is part of various projects that IESE’s Learning Innovation Unit is implementing to explore the potential of new technologies in an effective way.

For Professor Josep Valor, Chair of IESE’s Learning Innovation Unit, "At IESE we are constantly seeking to improve the learning experience of students and participants on our different programs. We are carrying out different initiatives to continue to use opportunities offered by current technologies; while reinforcing IESE's values of teaching excellence and inspiring business leaders who aim to have a positive impact in society."
