Preparations Underway in Munich for Global Alumni Reunion 2015

Munich will host the Global Annual Reunion 2015 this October. The city, which is also the site of the new IESE campus (read news article), will be the backdrop to a full line up this year which includes academic sessions and onsite visits to key companies and organizations with headquarters in the business hub.

This year’s focus is reindustrialization of Europe and keynotes will reflect the key challenges facing Europe as it strives to drive growth in manufacturing, tech and innovation.

Munich’s International Congress Center will play host to the academic sessions under the heading: "Expanding Impact: the Power of Excellence in Business."

Keynote speakers include Franz Haniel, chairman, Franz Haniel & CIE, and Josef Schmid, vice mayor, city of Munich.

Here is a taste of what is in store:

  • Geopolitical and Economic Risk

Recent developments in geopolitics show implied economic risks cannot be taken lightly. How do businesses adapt and turn these risks into returns? Professor of International Politics at Oslo University, Janne Haaland Matláry, Jaime Caruana, general manager of the Bank for International Settlements, and Tony Barber, Europe editor of the Financial Times will share insight, perspectives and expertise.

  • Competing in Manufacturing and Innovation

The driving force behind GE’s growth in Germany and Europe, Stephen Reimalt, president and CEO of GE Europe and CEO of GE Germany along with Michael Heinz, member of the board of executive directors, BASF SE and Dr. Hans J. Langer, founder and CEO of EOS will illuminate IESE Alumni by drawing on their own experiences.

  • Digital Transformation

Find out how to conquer digital transformation from Bruno Di Leo, senior vice president Sales & Marketing at IBM, member of IESE International Advisory Board. With over 35 years of experience in expanding and embracing digital transformation across the continents, his global perspective on how to harness the power behind the mega is second to none. Charles-Edouard Bouée, CEO and president for Asia at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants also adds his insight on how to turn digitalization into a useful tool to innovate and reindustrialize.

  • Entrepreneurial Impact

Entrepreneurs are at the forefront of change. How can they make a positive impact? How do investors decide on who and what to invest in? Moderated by Professor Rob Johnson, a panel with some of the most outstanding, innovative entrepreneurs and investors will discuss what are the fundamental elements of entrepreneurial impact.

  • Corporate Governance

Does social responsibility play a part in corporate governance? What role do the two-tier boards play in transparency, integrity and ethical behavior? Paul Achleitner’s experience on boards serves as the base of his keynote speech on the topic. Current Chairman of the Supervisory Board Deutsche Bank, he also serves many other international boards. Also sharing their many years of experience of steering boards in stormy waters are Dr. Herman Daems, chairman of the board of directors at BARCO and Dr. Klaus Mangold, founder IWB.

There will also be an opportunity to visit IESE’s new Munich campus where work is underway to create a new hub for business research in Central Europe.
