Meet 10 New IESE Professors

IESE welcomes 10 new professors to faculty this fall, bringing the teaching body to just under 190 academics from more than 30 different countries. IESE faculty hold doctorates from the world’s leading universities. Many of them authors of best-selling business case studies, IESE professors also publish regularly in the top international journals. 

Here’s a breakdown of our new faculty members:

  • Inés Alegre, Assistant Professor, Department of Managerial Decision Sciences
    PhD in Management from IESE Business School and Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). Her research focuses on new organizational forms in the sharing economy such as collaborative consumption platforms, crowdsourcing, crowdfunding and social enterprises. Before joining IESE, Inés was an Assistant Professor both at the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC) and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), in Spain.
     
  • José Azar, Assistant Professor, Economics Department
    PhD and Master’s Degree in Economics from Princeton University. He also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella, in Argentina. José specializes in industrial organization and applied econometrics. His research studies the effect on competition of common ownership by large and diversified asset managers, and its implications for policy.

  • Kate Barasz, Assistant Professor, Marketing Department
    PhD in Business Administration (Marketing) from Harvard Business School and Bachelor of Arts (Economics and Public Policy Studies) from Duke University, in the U.S. Prior to that, Kate worked as a consultant in Bain & Company’s Boston and Atlanta offices. Her research uses experimental methods to study consumer decision-making.

  • Pietro Bonetti, Assistant Professor, Accounting and Control Department
    PhD in Economics (with a specialization in Accounting) from the University of Padova, and a MAS and BS in Accounting from the University of Bologna, in Italy. After graduation, Pietro spent three years as a postdoctoral researcher at the Booth School of Business, University of Chicago. His research interests focus on the economic consequences of disclosure and financial regulation and the role of accounting information in debt contracting, as well as corporate governance and international accounting.

  • Ricardo Calleja, Lecturer, Business Ethics Department
    PhD in Legal and Political Philosophy from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, where he graduated in Law. He has been a postdoctoral research fellow at IESE and a visiting scholar at the Busch School of Business (Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C.) and the Mendoza College of Business (University of Notre Dame, Indiana). Ricardo has completed three summer research sabbaticals at the NYU School of Law (New York). His work has recently been published in Philosophy of Management, the Journal of Corporate Citizenship and the Revista de Estudios Políticos.

  • Isabelle Engeler, Assistant Professor, Marketing Department
    Isabelle completed her postdoctoral research at New York University’s Stern School of Business and the University of St. Gallen and holds a PhD in Management from the University of St. Gallen. Her research focuses on psychological aspects in consumption, pricing and goal achievement, as well as topics related to de-biasing methods in survey research.

  • Igor Kadach, Assistant Professor, Accounting and Control Department
    PhD in Accounting from the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University (NYU), MA in Economics from the New Economic School and BA in Economics from Moscow State University. His research interests concentrate on voluntary disclosure, institutional ownership and the structure of executive compensation.

  • Harris Kyriakou, Assistant Professor, Information Systems Department
    PhD in Business Administration from Stevens Institute of Technology, M.S. in Technology Innovation Management from Carnegie Mellon University and BS in Digital Systems from the University of Piraeus, Greece. Harris’s research interests include collective innovation, computer-supported cooperative work and crowdsourcing. Most recently, his research won the best dissertation award from Stevens School of Business and the first place in the INFORMS poster competition.

  • Stefano Sacchetto, Assistant Professor, Financial Management Department
    PhD and Master of Research in Economics from London Business School, an MAS in Economics from Bocconi University, and a BA in Business and Economics from the University of Turin, in Italy. Stefano’s main area of research is corporate finance, with a focus on mergers and acquisitions, and firms’ investment and financing policies. His research has been published in the Journal of Financial Economics, the Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, and the Journal of Applied Economics.

  • Weiming Zhu, Assistant Professor, Department of Production, Technology and Operations Management
    PhD in Operations Management from the University of Maryland. Prior to joining the University of Maryland, he obtained his bachelor’s degree in Physics from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). His current research theoretically and empirically explores financing schemes in supply chains. Weiming has won multiple awards, including first prize in the POMS SC College 2016 Student Paper Competition.
